For older records, the Chelan County Auditor holds birth and death records from 1900 to 1907. Their address is PO Box 400, Wenatchee, WA 98807 and the phone is (509) 667-6604. Wenatchee Death Records - Genealogy Resources

The Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society (WAGS) is a standout resource for anyone researching deaths in the Wenatchee area. Their online database at wags.ws includes Jones and Jones Funeral Home records spanning 1906 to 2001, a total of 27,000 records. These records are archived, indexed, and searchable online. They include funeral cards, death certificates, obituaries, and military records. If someone in your family died in Chelan or Douglas County during that period and used this funeral home, there is a good chance WAGS has a record you can view.

Funeral home records are not the same as official death certificates, but they often contain the same core information and can help you confirm a death, find a burial location, or identify family members listed as survivors. For genealogists working on North Central Washington families, WAGS is often the fastest path to useful data without having to request a formal certificate.

The Chelan County Historical Society at chelancountyhistory.org also holds local historical records and can assist with research for older Wenatchee-area deaths. Their museum and archive are based in Cashmere, about 12 miles from Wenatchee.

Note: City burial records for Wenatchee are held by the City Clerk's office. These are separate from vital records and may contain information on interments within city-owned cemeteries.

Who Can Request Wenatchee Death Records

Washington's closed records law, which took effect January 1, 2021, limits certified death certificate access to qualified individuals. This applies to Wenatchee and all of Chelan County. Eligible requestors include the registrant's spouse, domestic partner, children, parents, siblings, grandparents, grandchildren, and legal representatives. You can also request a certified copy if you have a court order or a documented legal or financial interest in the record.

You must show a valid government-issued photo ID when picking up or ordering a certified copy. The Chelan-Douglas Health District requires identification for all orders, whether in person or by mail. For VitalChek orders, you provide identity information electronically as part of the online checkout. The fee is $25 per certificate with a $10 surcharge for same-day expedited service.

Historical records available through the Washington State Digital Archives are publicly accessible with no eligibility check. These include records up to 1997 for death certificates and up to 2020 for the death index. Anyone can search and view these at no cost through the digital archives website.
